Resonance || Musings

Good afternoon, world! How has life been treating you? How has the weather been where you live? Have you read any good books recently? It's been a while (again), hasn't it? I've decided to embrace making posts like this. I hemmed and hawed about it for a while, but I figure making yet another "hi guys" post is better than just abandoning the blog out of embarrassment. Something is always better than nothing, especially in a community as small as ours. I hope you think so, too.

Below the cut, you'll find some personal musings on where I've been, where I'm at, and what I'm planning to do. For those who aren't interested, tl;dr: I'm starting a new Docking Station world that I intend to leave online for long periods. There will be incoming/outgoing portals for creatures to come and go as they please. Cheers!

So... adulthood has been a pretty strange experience, so far. It's a little alarming just how quickly the years start to go by. When I first started the Pappus Café in 2017, I was a college student. Since February 2023, when I last posted: I got married, moved apartments again (from one to another in the same building due to renovations), lost my cat to kidney cancer, and adopted two more.

To be fully honest, I never really had any crazy ambitions growing up. I just wanted to live on my own, have my girlfriend move in with me, and adopt a cat. I was very fortunate to be able to achieve these things not long after I graduated college, and it became my life.

To be clear - I'm happy with how things have gone! I really am, genuinely. But, having achieved the goals I set out for my entire life by age 22 left me a bit adrift. I didn't really know what to do with myself. It led to a lot of "coasting", followed by a lot of introspection. Now, at 27, I'm starting to have some kind of breakthrough (following a struggle with my mental health, lol), and that's what brought me here.

In 2024, I made a New Year's resolution to journal on a daily basis. I've mostly stuck to that. In 2025, I started moving more towards creative endeavors. I've started learning how to draw, writing more, reading books, and engaging in life in ways that I wasn't really doing before. I used to spend the vast majority of my free time on video games, and now I have a much healthier balance of video games and other, more "traditional" hobbies. Without getting too deep into my own personal issues, I'm also working on forming a healthier relationship with myself and my emotions, and although it's promising to be a rocky road ahead, I'd like to make it through and I'm ready to put in the work to get there.

But Creatures was always something that's in the back of my mind. Even though I hadn't opened the game since December 2023 until today, I always knew it was there. I'd regularly tell my friends to try getting it on Steam (maybe someday they will, but I know Creatures is a special flavor of niche). I still have my collection proudly displayed in our activity room.

Recently, my manager at work encouraged me to get a proper work-from-home setup after finding out that I'd been working from "just" my work laptop. I now have two huge monitors, a dock, and a nice keyboard. I've had to totally rearrange my desk and my working environment is so much different now! And in fact, when I set up my personal computer on my desk too, I realized - it would be SO EASY to set up a new Docking Station world here, and leave it running. I don't even have to move my laptop every time I want to use it any more!

All this to say, today I'm introducing Resonance - a world running the most recent (as of today) version of C2toDS Refresh that I'll be leaving online (using the Eem.foo/Natsue warp) as often as I can manage, while providing occasional updates or check-ins here at the Pappus Café, hopefully. I'm still working on adjusting my delicate work/hobby/life balance, but I'd like to bring Creatures into the fold again after so long away.

If you've read all of this, first of all - thank you! I know my ramblings might not be the most interesting. Second of all, I hope that maybe some element of it resonated with you, whether about life events or how to balance your own interests or about getting in better touch with yourself.

When this post goes up, Resonance will officially be online, starting off with breeding pairs of Affordable Norns, TWB Dodgy Norns, TWB Gargoyle Norns, and TWB Siamese Norns - a selection of breeds I'm fond of that I'm hoping can build a strong foundation. I'll be waiting until the world is a bit more populated before I open it up to let creatures leave, but the incoming portal will be open immediately if anyone would like to send creatures my way!

Thanks again for everything, and see you all out there.
